Our Belief Statement
The Four Components of the GOT GRIT? Program
G: Getting along with others. President Theodore Roosevelt said, “The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.” Soft skills (social skills) are more important than hard skills.
R: Responsibility. Marvin Marshall, educator and discipline expert, tells us, “Responsible people are happy people. Happy people are responsible people.” Adults and children need to be responsible in these areas:
1) The body (exercise, sleep, good nutrition, spirituality)
2) Learning (having a ‘growth-mindset’)
3) The family (doing their fair share helping/supporting family members)
4) The community (environmental issues, recycling, volunteering, voting)
I: Integrity: Notice that the word grit is hidden in the word integrity. It takes grit to have integrity! It isn’t always easy doing the right thing.
T: Tenacity. This involves perseverance, not giving up, not using excuses, overcoming adversities, self-discipline, determination, and optimism.
